Plant information

General

The Yucca, also known as the "Palm Lily" in Holland originally comes from Central America. In spite of its Dutch common name, the Common Yucca bears no resemblance to a palm. This sturdy plant is known for its pointed leaves and it exudes calm and tranquillity. The Indians believed in the medicinal powers of the Yucca and used the leaves and roots for the treatment of various health problems. This is why the houseplant is also known as the "Tree of Life". Who would not want to have it at home?

Care

Because the Yucca is used to aridity, it does not need much water. Wait with watering until the top layer of soil has dried up. The Common Yucca requires more water in the spring and summer, but spending several weeks without water is no problem. A fresh rainfall is also good for the plant.

Placing

The Yucca asks for a bright spot. Make sure that the plant receives at least 5 hours of sunlight per day. This keeps the leaves firm. The plant can moved outdoors during the summer, but avoid a spot in the full midday sun.

Propogation

Repotting the Common Yucca is best done in the spring. Damaged roots recovers faster in the spring. Repeat this process every three years. A larger pot stimulates growth and improves the plant's health. You can leave the Yucca in its plant container until the moment of repotting.
