Plant information

General

Because of its sturdy and tuberous foot, the Beaucarnea Recurvata somewhat resembles an Elephant's Foot. This explains the Dutch name of this house plant originating from Central America. The Elephant's Foot is a strong plant that is easy to keep and can stand long periods without water.

Care

The Beaucarnea Recurvata stores water in its coarse trunk thereby reducing its need for frequent watering. You only need to water the Elephant's Foot when the soil feels dry. During the winter the plant can easily withstand several weeks without water.

Placing

Ensure a bright location. The Elephant's Foot requires at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. The Beaucarnea Recurvata will not grow new leaves if it is resting in a dark spot. A spot by a window facing east or west is ideal.

Propogation

The Elephant's Foot is easy to maintain and repot. Repot the plant immediately after purchase, or in the spring. Choosing a larger ornamental pot stimulates the growth of the plant.
