General

The Lily of the Nile isn’t actually a lily at all, but that doesn’t make us love it any less! The Latin name for the plant, Agapanthus, literally translates as ‘flower of love’, and we get why. You try looking at those little blue flowers without falling just a tiny bit in love. Especially if you’re having trouble keeping plants and flowers alive in a sunny garden or balcony, this lily of the nile is your match made in heaven.

Care

The Agapanthus isn’t a big drinker, but does like a little bit of extra plant food every now and then. Water the plant once a week, and add some fertiliser once before the flowers start to bloom, and once after. Make sure the water can drain properly, as this plant doesn’t like to get his feet wet.

Placing

This blue beauty loves summer, and really thrives on the most sunny spots on your balcony or in your garden. As a true lover of all things sunny and warm, the lily of the Nile doesn’t do too well during the winter. Make sure you bring the plant inside before the first frost, and keep him there until temperatures rise again come spring.

Propogation

Place your Agapanthus in a spacious planter or pot with light, well-draining soil right after purchase. If you want to repot your plant, spring would be the best time to get it done.
