General

This Mexican beauty is back in business! European explorers discovered the plant back in the 1800s, but it wasn’t until recently that the dahlia started popping up in gardens and on balconies everywhere again. The flowering plant was bound to conquer our hearts sooner or later: it’s an easy plant that blooms right until the end of autumn, providing flowers for us to stare at for months. If you’re looking for an easy way to create a wild flower garden in your backyard, the dahlia is your best friend!

Care

Dahlias enjoy lots of water, so make sure the soil always stays moist. Always remove dried up flowers from the plant, so new flowers get room to grow. Because the plant gives flowers so easily, it’s fine to cut off a few nice ones and put them in a vase on the kitchen table every now and then.

Placing

Find a bright spot for your plant, preferably one with lots of morning sunshine.

Propogation

Repot the plant immediately after purchase. Because dahlias are not perennials, it’s wise to dig up the plant’s tuberous roots and store them somewhere dry in the winter. If done properly, you should be able to plant the roots back into the pot the next spring.
